Masks required in Washington County, Johnson City through Aug. 29

As a reminder, the Washington County executive order requiring masks be worn in public applies within the city limits of Johnson City. Washington County Mayor Joe Grandy signed Executive Order No. 3 on Aug. 3, which extends the original mask mandate through Aug. 29. The order requires all persons 12 years or older, including employees or customers of businesses, to wear cloth face coverings in public settings where being in close proximity to others is anticipated, particularly where other social distancing measures are difficult to maintain.

The order – which can be found in its entirety here – goes into effect at 12:01 a.m. on Tuesday (Aug. 4). The mandate and subsequent extension is a direct response to the continued increase in active cases of COVID-19 in Northeast Tennessee, resulting in a spike of local hospitalizations.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has information about cloth face coverings, including how to wear, make, and wash them available on its website.
