Worldwide Taco Trek ride set for Saturday

The City of Johnson City has partnered with Trek Bicycle Johnson City to host the first Worldwide Taco Trek ride on Saturday, Sept. 16. The event will begin at 3 p.m. with a tailgate party featuring games in King Commons, 112 N. Commerce St. The Worldwide Taco Trek ride is set to start at 4 p.m.

The family-friendly bike route begins at Trek Bicycle, 110 W. Market St., and takes riders through the Tree Streets to the Tweetsie Trail ending in downtown Johnson City. The ride takes approximately 30 minutes and is a little more than three miles. Riders of all ages can enjoy the slow, casual pace.

Johnson City is home to the first-ever Taco Trek, which began here in 2015. The rides have since grown to include other communities across the globe. The thread that connects each is a Trek Bicycle store and neighbors who enjoy outdoor adventure.

“This event is a community favorite,” said Lindsey Jones, special events manager for Johnson City. “I’ve participated in these rides for eight years now, and the number of familiar faces just continues to grow. We hope new ones will join us to celebrate this now worldwide event that started right here in Johnson City.”

The first 200 participants will receive a free water bottle. Complimentary commemorative posters will be offered. Other amenities include a bike valet for participants who would like to stroll downtown or grab dinner at an area restaurant following the ride. Valets will be located at King Commons Park from 4:30-6:30 p.m.
