Upcoming Community Roundtable meeting topics announced

The Community Roundtable strives to foster a positive relationship between the Johnson City Police Department and the citizens it serves. Meetings occur on the second Thursday of each month, with alternating times and locations.

“The Community Roundtable provides an opportunity for our department to build partnerships with the citizens and within communities,” said Johnson City Police Capt. Scotty Carrier. “In May, June, and July the discussions will focus on resources for young children and their families as well as services for juvenile and non-violent offenders.”

In odd number months (January, March, May, July, September, and November) meetings will be held at the Langston Centre, 315 Elm St., at 11:30 a.m. In even number months (February, April, June, August, and October) meetings will be held in the Commission Chambers at the Municipal and Safety Building, 601 E. Main St., at 6 p.m. No meeting will be held in December.

Upcoming meeting topics include:

May 11                        Samantha Prater, Children’s Advocacy Center, will talk about services and support available to at-risk, abused and neglected children and their families.

June 8                         Representatives from Juvenile Court will discuss judicial proceedings involving children and their families. The meeting on June 8 may be moved to the Administrative Conference room in the Municipal and Safety Building, 601 E. Main St., depending on a construction schedule.

July 13                        Sarah Townsend, Tennessee Department of Correction Day Reporting Center, will discuss the one-year, three-phase program that assists non-violent offenders with resources to keep them out of the prison system and working towards productivity in their community.

The Community Roundtable is not an appointed board, nor is there formal membership. All community members are welcome to attend the monthly meetings.
