Application for new water, sewer, and solid waste service must be made in person at the Municipal and Safety Building, at 601 E. Main St. Applicants must provide photo ID and social security number, and a soft credit check will be performed to determine if a security deposit is required.
A$25 next business day or a $50 same-day connection fee will apply. Office hours are Monday through Friday, 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Orders for same-day connection of water and sewer srvice must be placed by 3 p.m. each business day.
SECURITY DEPOSIT INFORMATION
Deposits must be paid before water, sewer, solid waste and stormwater services are provided. Deposits are refundable, including interest, when services are discontinued. Maximum deposit amounts for residential accounts that are inside the city limits of Johnson City are $42 for water, $64 for sewer, $18 for solid waste , and a $6 stormwater fee (if applicable). Deposit amounts for residential accounts that are outside the city limits of Johnson City are for $84 for water, $128 for sewer and $32 for solid waste.
Customers may have the option of a credit check through ONLINE Utility Exchange, or pay the maximum designated deposit. Those customers with a satisfactory credit score will not be charged a deposit or may be charged the minimum deposit requirements.
The Johnson City Utility System reserves the right to evaluate customers’ payment histories to access credit risks that require additional deposits. JCUS may also require an additional deposit if an account is found to be “at risk.” All deposits will continue to accrue annual interest. Upon termination of service, any existing deposit and interest will be applied against any unpaid balance of the customer. If any balance remains, that amount will be refunded to the customer upon request.
Deposit payment options are check, cash, money order, VISA, Mastercard, Discover, and American Express. Credit and debit card transactions are subject to a 2.75 percent convenience fee.
