In 2019, the Johnson City Board of Commissioners approved a set of guidelines for installation of small cell antennas within city limits. The Small Cell Antenna Ordinance can be found here. (link here to PDF- ordiance) These guidelines allow for deployment of new communications technology in Johnson City while also protecting the aesthetics of our local historic districts, residential neighborhoods and scenic corridors. The ordinance breaks the city into five districts, each with its own design standards: General Commercial, General Residential, Historic Commercial, Historic Residential, and Schools & Parks. Each district sets requirements for height, diameter, size, color and light style and also sets aesthetic requirements for pole design. The Small Cell Antenna District Map can be found here.  Small Cell Antenna placement requires administrative review by the City of Johnson City. Deviation from the Design Standards requires Discretionary Review. The Small Cell Antenna application and information regarding required supporting documents can be found here.
