CREATIVE CARD MAKING

Want to have some fun? Join us as we create homemade greeting cards to share with friends and family. We will be making a variety of cards, including get well, birthday and Valentine’s Day. You will be making six cards and completing the stamping and embossing yourself. Don’t delay. Seats are limited. Please preregister for one of these two classes and pay in advance to ensure your spot.

If you have a basic technical knowledge of your camera, a desire to learn and experience more, understand some of the creative control functions like aperture, shutter speed, composition, use of the manual settings on your camera and ready to delve deeper into image creation and gain a broader knowledge of photography, then Next Step Photography is for you. 

VIDEO SERIES – HOW TO LOOK AT AND UNDERSTAND GREAT ART

In these lectures we will be introduced to the components of art – color line, perspective and composition as well as point of view, motion, light and texture. We will learn how the artist uses symbolism and communicates a message to the viewer. Many different media will be included and many great works of art featured. The course covers great art from the 13th century to present. 

VIDEO SERIES – MASTERWORKS OF AMERICAN ART

In this video series we will explore the remarkable history of American art, from its origins in the colonial past until shortly before World War I. Like the early Americans, it is forward-looking, innovative and sometimes rebellious. 

PENCIL DRAWING MADE EASY

Learn fundamental skills including how to add shadows, depth and dimension. This is a make and take class. All supplies will be furnished. This is a great class to do as a family. SEWING GROUP – A COMMUNITY SERVICE PROJECT

Surplus fabric has been donated to the center. We want to give back to the community by sewing oversized lap quilts and/or pet beds. Sewing machines will be set up and all supplies will be made available. The quilts will be donated to the community. For more information, call: 423-434-6237.

PAPER QUILLING TECNIQUE

This month’s class project will be a choice of either a Bird of Paradise or snowflake. This is a fun and relaxing way to create with instruction in the use of the tools and materials. Suitable for any skill level. All supplies provided. There is an example of the project on the bulletin board outside the craft room. 

MANDALA SUN CATCHER 
Location: Memorial Park Community Center
Date: Friday, March 11
Time: 2 classes offered: 10 a.m.-1 p.m. or 1-4 p.m.

Sun catchers take the light of the sun and energize an area by spreading that light around in the form of rainbows and flecks of light. We will peel off the coating of a CD to reveal a clear under layer, then transform the transparent disk into a beautiful, vibrant sun catcher. The project will include light-catching objects such as strings of beads and gems. Cost includes all supplies and instruction. An apron is recommended.  
 
SILK PAINTING FOR WEARABLE ART

Sherry will be teaching silk painting on stretchers, producing beautiful and unique results. Your creation will become part of your apparel! Mixed media is a term used to describe artworks composed from a combination of different materials, such as scraps of paper, paint, distress texture technique, embellishments such as lace, tinkles, broken jewelry, old greeting cards, quilling, stamping etc.  Sherry will demonstrate some new techniques and will have an example on display.  Cost includes all supplies and instruction.  An apron is recommended.

PEN AND INK CLASS

Come and explore the old fashioned dip pen and black India ink. We will learn about the techniques used in ink for shading and texture and work on a drawing. Step by step instruction will be provided.  We will be using a basic all-purpose Hunt 56 pen nib.  All supplies furnished, but feel free to bring your own materials if you wish.  An apron is recommended.  

NEEDLE AND FIBER ARTS

Learn to play the old time Mountain Dulcimer with Willis! Please bring an instrument that is ready to play. This one hour session is for those who are interested in learning, have questions about the dulcimer or are very rusty in their playing technique. There will also be practice time from 3 – 4 p.m. at no additional charge.
