Langston Centre Afterschool Institute under way

The Langston Centre Afterschool Institute is currently accepting students in grades 3-8 to participate in the on-site program for the remainder of the academic year. Funded through a Tennessee State Department of Education grant, the program is offered at no cost to students and includes free transportation from local schools to the Langston Centre, 315 Elm St.

Students will be provided with a snack then will explore STEAM (science, technology, engineering, art, and mathematics) topics by rotating through three learning zones each afternoon. The learning zones include: Techno Park (engineering and technology), LabWorks (physics), Kitchen Chemistry, Musical Movements, Spotlight Theatre, ArtsZone, and Media Lab. All activities are hands-on, experiential learning projects that enforce and enhance curriculum standards, Next Generation Science Standards, phenomena-based learning, and follow students' natural curiosity.

The program is held from 3:30-6:30 p.m., and there are a limited number of spots available in each grade level. To learn more about the program or to apply, contact the Langston Centre at 423-434-5788.
