Johnson City Police investigator awarded second highest department honor

Interim Johnson City Police Chief Billy Church presented Investigator Jaynes with the Medal of Distinguished Service on Thursday, March 23.

Investigator Jaynes was nominated for this honor by Sgt. Shane Williams. In his recommendation for Investigator Jaynes, Williams highlighted Jaynes’ experience, tenacity and diligence during an extended investigation in 2019, which led to the resolution of three missing persons cases in three different jurisdictions. Jaynes’ investigation led to the recovery of the victims’ bodies and a guilty plea by the suspect.

“We are proud to recognize Investigator Joe Jaynes with Johnson City Police Department’s Medal of Distinguished Service,” said Interim Police Chief Billy Church. “His contribution to this investigation cannot be understated. Investigator Jaynes was persistent in his pursuit of justice and dedicated an extraordinary amount of time to the investigation.”

Investigator Jaynes has been a member of the Johnson City Police Department since 2004 and has served in the Criminal Investigations Division since 2014.
