Johnson City MTPO kicks off plan update

The Johnson City Metropolitan Transportation Planning Organization (MTPO) is updating the region’s long range transportation plan and kicking off the planning process with a community survey available on the MTPO’s website.

The MTPO planning area includes the jurisdictions of Bluff City, Elizabethton, Johnson City, Jonesborough, part of Unicoi, and parts of Carter, Sullivan, and Washington counties.

Working with member jurisdictions, the general public, and other stakeholders, the MTPO updates the long range transportation plan, also known as the Metropolitan Transportation Plan (MTP), every five years. This federally required plan will identify projects to improve roadways, bridges, walkways, bikeways, and transit services using federal transportation funds over the next 30 years.

The community survey is available online now to gather ideas about transportation improvements and includes an interactive map to submit specific suggestions. The project webpage and survey can be accessed at the following links:
