The Criminal Investigations Division (CID) is a major component of the Police Department and is commanded by a captain who reports directly to the chief of police. Lieutenants and sergeants within the Criminal Investigations Division share supervisory and case management responsibilities in addition to other investigative tasks.

Criminal investigators conduct investigations and prepare cases for prosecution. In addition, CID gathers intelligence information on criminal activities and provides assistance to patrol officers on these matters. CID also assists the district attorney general's office in the prosecution of criminal cases.
